I've been working with children and reptiles in environmental education centers for quite some time now, and have snake breeders and herpotlogists in the family. Even with our combined experience, we've always struggled to find any truly useful snake activities for educational use. This book contains absolutely fantastic activities that demonstrate the unique characteristics of a snake without adding any undue fear to a child's already tainted perception of this often misunderstood reptile. Unlike other activity books, I would say at least 80% of the activities found within this book are useable and entertaining on a level most children (and adults) can appreciate. Not to mention, the activities explore nearly every snake thing I could think of in a very hand-on manner, allowing me to offer visitors to our center an immersive educational experience that will fit most learning styles.

We bought Awesome Snake Science as a gift for a 9 year old boy who has dreams of being a herpetologist. Each activity in the book has a description of what each snake feature is like, why it's important, and then the activity mimics that feature. Some of the activities are better than others. Some deal with physical characteristics, like the spine or jaws, some with snake handling. My sons, 6 and 9 have been reading it together and planning their summer activities. Thankfully, for me, no snakes are required to enjoy this book, so we've been able to stave off getting a real snake for another year.

This book had some great ideas for simply explaining the odd things about snakes, such as "How DO they fit that big animal into such a small mouth?" My students enjoyed the snake eggs candy/cookies. I learned quite a bit about snakes with this book.

Nice activities in this book. Wonderful Saturday morning activity to do with kids or rainy afternoon game/book to unfold. Bought for our 7 year old.

I bought this for my 8 year old nephew and he loved it. It has a lot of information and is colorful.
