It's interesting to read how a persons life develops through their lifetime. You get to see how decisions affect lives even after they're dead and gone.
The Silver Suitcase is a wonderful story of history and family and how God can touch our lives in the most unobtrusive ways. Benita is struggling with her marriage since her husband has been laid off. With the death of her beloved grandmother Benita feels like she has lost the anchor in her life. But even though her grandmother is gone physically she still plays a huge impact in Benita's future. With the discovery of the silver suitcase left to her by her grandmother Benita's life soon begins to change. As she reads through the diaries left in the suitcase Benita realizes the importance of God and family in her grandmother's life and her life too. I love stories that bring history to life and this book does not disappoint. If you are a fan of World War II e and how the people left at home survived and lived you will love this book. But it also shows how families are tied together through the past. Our past affects our future and this book certainly shows that. I love stories about home life during World War II and this book showed a side of what life was like in Canada. I think this will be a favorite book of mine.
Books are strange, wonderful things aren't they? Some people love the whole book, others only parts of it, some people don't like any of it. I started reading The Silver Suitcase on my Kindle, at the 40% mark I decided that this was a book that I need in physical form because I'll be reading it again.I liked the diary format in this one and I teared up several times. In one respect I connected with Cornelia, but that would give it away. Was the disappearance of the suitcase and act of God? Could be, diary pages showed up in places that they were needed. I'll reread this one.
I thought it was going to be about how people lived through WWII in Canada (which is my fav read) But surprise it was about faith. How sometimes we get mad at God but deep down we know he's looking out for us. We need something to impact us & remind us he's there. Sometimes we live to find out why things happen & sometimes it's after we are gone. But God always uses all our trials & turns them into good. I loved how the story went back & forth between the granddaughter/fam her mother somewhat, but the most interesting was the grandmothers life..My mother would tell me how things were during the war falling in love sometimes getting pregnant & how in those days such secrecy not to bring shame. I also loved the diaries the grandmother left behind in the silver suitcase (love books with diaries letter even emails) & was sad when the suitcase was stolen. But God used it for good & so many people's lives were effected for the better after it was stolen. I enjoyed this book especially the secrets (which I sort of figured a few) but also the love for fam was the most impacting. It was a good read esp when you're going through a trial of you're own you are brought to awareness of God that he is still working in your life even if you don't feel it. I only wish we learned more about the granddaughters father. Other than that I totally enjoyed it.
A beautifully written story about the burdens that women can carry. The story spans 70 years, 3 generations, and a heartbreaking secret that only faith can mend. The lead character suffers the loss of loved ones, one by one and loses her faith in God. The ending is the best part but not because the secret is out but the wonderful way in which her faith keeps on giving.
I thought the Silver Suitcase was though provoking. It sort of follows a granddaughter's life while we simultaneously discover the life of her grandmother. It was cleverly written and kept my attention. Perhaps the epilogue could have been less obvious about it's Christian objective but I did not mind. After reading the Silver Suitcase, I gave some thought about what legacy I would leave my children and grandchildren.I bought this for my Kindle and would recommend it highly! As a matter of fact, I just recommended it to my friend.
This is a beautifully written story that brought tears to my eyes. The characters were well-developed as was the story. In sum, it's a story of family secrets and faith. I'm not an overly religious person but I was very much drawn into this story and finished it within a couple of days. I have gone through some personal traumas, and this book gave me a glimmer of hope that things will be okay. I especially loved the ending. What a nice way to tie everything together!
I started this book at bedtime and forced myself to put it down around 4am. Thank God for storytellers like this. When I read the book description, I did not see this as a message of God or faith. I saw an intriguing mystery. I was happy for a new book to read. What a wonderful way to share God's love for us. I love the many messages of love, faith, forgiveness and hope. I look forward to sharing this book with my sweet girl when she is a little older. In the meantime, I will share God's love by recommending this book to others.Thank you for a great story.
I loved this book. It was so uplifting, sad in parts, but opened up an era previously unknown to me. The story was well written, with insight and a good spiritual message. So many of us have an inward battle to understand God's love for us when we have such a low opinion of ourselves. Well worth reading.
